WHO WE ARE

We are a private Foundation supporting organizations that fight poverty through education while cultivating a spirit of philanthropy at Lone Pine Capital LLC.

We are funded by the employees of Lone Pine Capital LLC. All full time employees serve as equal voting members on our Advisory Board.

OUR APPROACH

We award grants to programs that serve children and families in the areas of education and youth development. Board Members engage with grantees through rigorous analysis of grant proposals, site visits, guest speakers and volunteer events.

We evaluate our portfolio grantees in the following areas:

We invest in strong leaders and Boards who effectively guide their organizations to make a difference in the communities they serve.

OUTCOMES

We invest in organizations that meet measurable short and long-term goals and use their results to develop innovative and effective programs.

ORGANIZATIONAL EFFECTIVENESS

We support organizations with a focused mission and a positive culture that promotes staff excellence, strong community partnerships, and effective internal practices.

FINANCIAL HEALTH

We support sustainable organizations that have a diversified funding base and sound financial controls.

Since our founding in 2001, Lone Pine Foundation, Inc. has awarded over $100 million in grants to nonprofits in Connecticut, New York and Palo Alto.

MEET OUR TEAM

LUCY BALL


Lucy Ball became the Founding Executive Director of Lone Pine Foundation, Inc. in 2002. Lucy has been a leader in the nonprofit sector for 35 years. Prior to joining the Foundation, she was Executive Director of Starlight Children's Foundation (now known as Encourage Kids Foundation) where she remains on the Board of Directors. 

KATHERINE GEHRMANN


Katherine Gehrmann is the Associate Director at Lone Pine Foundation. Her experience working with youth combined with a passion for educational equity led her to the Foundation in 2009. She holds a Master’s in Public Administration with High Honors from Pace University, and a BA in Anthropology from the University of Connecticut.

MOLLY UMBLE


Molly Umble is a Senior Program Officer at Lone Pine Foundation. After graduating with a BA in Psychology from Hendrix College, Molly moved abroad to Sydney, where she began her career as an Event Coordinator at Children’s Tumor Foundation of Australia.

SARAH KENNEDY


Sarah Kennedy is a Program Officer at Lone Pine Foundation. Her passion for philanthropy and community impact stems from her background in nonprofit fundraising and social work.
